Mur(re)murings

Mur(re)murings is a series of oil paintings I completed in 2016 that explored the 2015 mass die-off of Common Murres in the North Pacific. These paintings were my way of exploring the swirling emotions, confusion, and sadness that this kind of tragic event can cause. With an unmitigated climate crisis, mass die-offs of certain species are only going to become more and more common. This was clearly only the murmuring of more unrest to come, especially in an ecosystem as complex yet fragile as the ocean. This was my attempt to express my feelings about witnessing this kind of loss and honor the lives of these beautiful birds.
