Paintings and Painted Objects

Often when I am thinking through a new art idea I always come back to painting. I am drawn to it as a medium in which I feel like I can express my thoughts, ideas, and wonder at the natural world. Animal, plant, and fungi species that are important to me and my daily life in Alaska are often the subject of these paintings, and I feel that through my paintings I often both explore and deepen my relationship with these creatures. I often paint on reclaimed wooden objects as well as more traditional panels and canvases. I think that paintings are important cultural objects and I enjoy making things that might be used or enjoyed in someone’s everyday life, reminding them of their daily connection to the world around us.
